Unified slotted circular antenna for dual band resonance

This paper proposes the three stage design of a novel microstrip patch antenna that may be utilized for C and X band fixed satellite operations. The proposed design has been built in three iterations that include a single circular patch, a unified circular geometry and a unified circular geometry that has been slotted to achieve the required dual band resonance in the C and X bands. The prototype has been designed over HFSS-15 using a 36 mm × 57 mm × 1.6 mm FR4 epoxy substrate and utilizes a coaxial feeding mechanism. A graphical as well as tabulated analysis of the three design stages in terms of reflection coefficient, bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain and VSWR has been carried.
