Most hybrid vehicles employ CVT currently as their transmission. Recently, Hyundai suggested a new hybrid vehicle using a dual clutch transmission for its power train. However, if we utilize the capability of the servo motor attached to the planetary gear device employed in most hybrid vehicles, we may eliminate the clutches and its related devices without sacrificing the quality of the ride of the vehicle. The major function of the clutch system in the hybrid vehicle is to control the amount of torque transmitted even though its fine control is difficult. Now, if we control the servo motor attached to the planetary gear device, we may synchronize the input gear axis and output gear axis in the transmission before engagement and control the magnitude of the torque transmitted to the transmission by controlling the amount of increment in the motor torque. The torque transmitted to the transmission is determined by the linear summation of the torques at the engine axis and motor, and can be controlled for gradual change. In this study, we are going to show the positive prospect of our system by examining the durability and economy comparing with the hybrid vehicle having dual clutch transmission.
