Rotor velocity/flux control of induction motors with improved efficiency

A singularity-free controller is presented for an induction motor which yields global exponential rotor velocity/flux tracking despite the lack of rotor flux measurements. For the rotor velocity/flux setpoint control problem it is illustrated how the desired setpoint for the magnitude of the rotor flux can be selected to minimize the copper loss in the machine; furthermore, a mild set of assumptions is used to show that the proposed nonlinear controller reduces to a simple three phase frequency controller. Some experimental results are provided to validate the theoretical concepts.
