The reliability of the steel structure under wind action

The design requirements for the structure under dominant wind load are analyzed and criteria for the probabilistic approach are examined. For this purpose the two examples are done concerning with the various observation data of wind load on the locations in the continental part of Croatia. The characteristic values from the actual wind load on the constructions of high steel chimney are derived and the steel chimney is designed by the ultimate moment’ s capacity requirements for the testing model. The statistical parameters of the experimental results are evaluated and FOSM method is used for the procedure of the calibration. As the results vary with the applied wind load and the two examined models on different locations are compared, it is necessary to achieve target values of reliability by correction of the model and load factors.
