Spiral growth and surface roughening: Developments since Burton, Cabrera and Frank

Abstract The essential points of the BCF paper are discussed. Developments concerning statistical models of crystal surfaces and computersimulations are treated. New developments in the spiral theory and terrace-ledge-kink model are discussed. Recently observed repeated nucleation hills and growth-stop phenomena are a real challenge for future research.
