Current perspectives on daytime sleepiness: the issues.

Although sleep and wakefulness are complementary phases in the daily cycle of human existence, they are usually considered as entirely separate entities and studied in isolation from one another. All-night sleep, in particular, is typically examined in its entirety and minutely dissected with total disregard of either the prior or following hours of wakefulness.
