The FAA Wide Area Differential GPS (WADGPS) Static Ionospheric Experiment

A summary of results of a WADGPS static ionospheric experiment on the East Coast of the U.S. is presented in this paper. An ionospheric algorithm based on dividing CONUS into 10x10 degree cells in latitude and longitude is developed and tested. The effect of a severe geomagnetic storm on ionospheric delay measurements and prediction is also discussed. An extrapolation of this experiment to estimate the number of reference stations required for a WADGPS ionospheric monitoring system in CONUS is presented.
