Variable parameter PI control of a novel doubly salient permanent magnet motor drive

For the double salient permanent magnet (DSPM) motor drive, it is difficult to get satisfied control characteristics by using normal linear PI controller due to the high nonlinearity between speed and current or torque. Hence, a variable PI controller, which is easily performed by a single-chip N87C196KD, is proposed according to the proportional and integral actions. The parameters of the controller are optimized by using genetic arithmetic. Both the theoretical simulation and the experiments on a prototype machine have shown that the proposed variable PI controller offers better adaptability, and that the developed DSPM motor drive offers good steady-state and dynamic performance.
