Research in Mobile Simulation

Mobile simulation units (MSUs) enable isolated surgeons and other health care providers to access simulation based education. Bringing training to the trainee has an obvious logic, but is there evidence to support this assumption? The objective of this review was to assess peer-reviewed literature reporting on the implementation and learning outcomes achieved from training delivered in an MSU. A rapid review research protocol was developed and 4 out of 181 studies met the inclusion criteria. Data on each of the pre-defined research outcomes were extracted and collated. Results identify variability in: the manner in which MSU training program results are reported, the types of outcomes reported, and the simulation modalities utilized. Issues with the quality of reporting on methodological tools (questionnaires) were identified.
