Vehicle application with alternative diesel combustion

The severe future emission scenarios require not only the application of exhaust aftertreatment systems but also a significant reduction of engine out emissions. The system approach by AVL List GmbH covering both combustion and control is one way to keep the overall costs at a reasonable level while reducing emissions significantly. Following the initial description of the individual system components, aspects of the application of alternative diesel combustion in combination with cylinder pressure based closed loop combustion control are discussed on the basis of results from an AVL demonstrator vehicle, focusing on driveability and noise characteristics.
