Continuing engineering education and the third mission of universities

The paper envisages the study about the third mission of universities, designated here as the group of activities besides teaching and research. It addresses the engagement of the university in outreach activities with the imperative of contributing to society and the relationship with CEE. There are several ways to address this increasingly important share of universities role and there are also different levels of political importance within universities. This is particularly important in engineering where there is a significant impact in the knowledge economy. It is intended that the paper program analyzes and studies the right degree of independence of universities within this framework but involving the stakeholders in these joint actions. For that purpose the CEE activities represent areas that may be crucial to identify the practices and case studies that can lead to an efficient and successful strategy.
