A Mechanical Calculation Model for On-line Icing-monitoring System of Overhead Transmission Lines

Accurate calculation on the icing condition of overhead transmission lines is a must for the on-line monitoring and pre-warning system. Therefore, a new mechanical calculation model was established based on the parameters of obliquities and tension at suspended point of insulator strings of the towers considering the deviation angel of insulator strings due to wind. In this model, mechanics parameters of conductors were turned into the new coordinates after deviation angel of insulator strings due to wind. A statics force balance equation was built in the vertical direction of the new coordinates after deviation. According to the real time operation condition of on-line icing monitoring system in Guizhou Power Grid, both the micro-climate data and the monitoring photos about the same transmission line tower were in accord with the calculation results of icing, verifying the accuracy and sensitivity of this newly developed mechanical calculation model.
