Recognition and attention to the teaching and learning of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages has grown in the last three decades. The introduction of the Australian curriculum framework for Aboriginal languages and Torres Strait Islander languages in 2015 (acara, 2019) is an important element in a national approach to increase teaching and learning of these languages. This paper provides a current snapshot of the adoption and realisation of the framework in five jurisdictions. The paper also identifies challenges in enacting the curriculum, such as the need for more teachers to deliver programs.
