Alternate polarisation soliton transmission in standard dispersion fibre links with no in-line controls

In an intensity-modulated direct-detection soliton transmission system, the alternate modulation of the polarisation between two orthogonal states allows an improvement in the distance/bandwidth limit imposed by the lumped amplification. Particular emphasis is given to the 1O Gbit/s transmission in standard dispersion fibre with no in-line controls over distances up to 700 km. >
