Application of the lifting scheme to efficient transmission of physiological data for remote display

Networks provide versatile channels for all kinds of data transmission, including transmission of physiological and imaging data for remote visual examination on computer screen by physicians. However, the preferred data segment to be examined in a single window is often beyond the resolution of the monitor, which causes problems in data display. The development of an efficient data transmission method which is adaptive to screen resolution has become a significant problem. Here, the authors present an advanced approach based on the lifting scheme. This approach enables a better display with limited monitor resolution, while at the same time greatly reducing the data to be transmitted through the network.
