Review of typical cognitive models and their application in human reliability analysis

The typical cognitive models and their applications in human reliability analysis are reviewed.Firstly, emphasis is placed on the necessity to establish cognitive models in human reliability analysis. Cognitive model can simplify the human behavior and abstract the general structure of human cognitive process. On the other hand, cognitive model can be used as the basis of human error interpretation. Secondly, several typical cognitive models in cognitive psychology and behavior science are reviewed, which are information process model, step model of decision making process and general cognitive model.Their basic structures and functions are analyzed.Meanwhile, their strong points and shortcomings are discussed as well.It is pointed out that the structure of cognitive models is increasingly closer to the real world and these models are more and more applicable. Thirdly, the cognitive models in several human reliability analysis methods are introduced, which are SRK framework of HCR,information process model of ATHEANA,COCOM model of CREAM and IDA model of IADC.Their characteristics are analyzed respectively. Lastly, the basic principles to establish cognitive models are proposed where the human cognitive process should be reasonably interpreted to make them more applicable for human reliability analysis.Considering the shortcomings of existing models, some suggestions are given to motivate the development of cognitive model in future.
