Reaction of cyclic acid anhydrides with ethyl cyanoacetate.

The reactions of cyclic carboxyanhydrides and substituted cyclic carboxyanhydrides with ethyl sodiocyanoacetic ester were studied. The resulting dicarboxylic acid esters failed to undergo Dieckmann cyclization.
