Abstract A general formulation for the analysis of composite beams with partial interaction, in which the basic equilibrium and compatibility equations are expressed in terms of displacements, is presented. Numerical solutions of the basic equations are obtained by expressing the displacement derivatives in finite difference form, and the solutions so obtained show close agreement with existing analytical solutions for linear material and shear connector behaviour.
