New directions in quality management

Abstract: The ever changing and expanding nature of quality development in recent years has placed an increased demand on undertaking continuous improvement as part of any quality cycle. As a result there is a need for the constant improvement of measures, instruments and software employed to assist the advancement of quality development. This chapter reviews: trends in the development of feedback instruments over the last few decades; tensions between the imperatives of continuous improvement, competition and quality assurance; current instruments in use by universities in Australia; and makes forecasts about future development. It will offer broad insights that assist managers and leaders to advance quality development in higher education.
