Internet economics is the study of the market for internet services.’ For media scholars, the internet represents the ’new’ platform on which media content of all kinds is rapidly becoming available. Understanding the economics behind the internet is key to understanding issues like universal access and advertiser subsidies. The purpose of this paper is to explicate the key terms and theoretical concepts of internet economics for media scholars. Key internet economic terms are listed in the accompanying glossary.
