Study on Evaluation of Both Time-base Distortion and Sampling Jitter of Digital Storage Oscilloscopes

A method to evaluate both time-base distortion and sampling jitter of digital storage oscilloscopes is presented.Through curve-fit results of two segments sinusoidal waveforms,using the phase difference of terminal points of two segment waveforms,the sampling periods at each point has been measured,both the sampling jitter and time-base distortion are obtained.With a group of imitation data,simulation results are gotten.The relations between jitter evaluation error and quantization error is open out,the periodical rule of sampling jitter evaluation is displayed.In an experiment on a digital storage oscilloscope,the effective results of sampling jitter are gained.The method above can be used to observe and compare both the sampling periods jitter and time-base distortion.
