In this paper, finite element analyses for the deformation characteristics of a power steering hose during the swaging process are performed in order to investigate the stress and the strain levels of the hose components with respect to the jaw strokes. The analysis, in which the friction is taken into account, is conducted, and its result is compared with the frictionless situation so as to check the differences of two results and decide whether the frictional condition was worth due consideration or not in the stress analysis of a high pressure hose. Contact conditions identical to the manufacturing process are applied, and the properties of hose materials based on the experimental data are used in the analysis. Because the inner rubber of the hose has an important role in the hose efficiency, the result interpretations are focused on the stress and the strain variations of the inner hose contacted with the nipple.
