Optimisation of animal cell culture media using dynamic simulation

Abstract A dynamic model for the growth of animal cells in culture is used in combination with an optimisation algorithm to design a medium for improved cell growth. By manipulating the initial concentrations of glucose and glutamine, the model predicts that the profitability of a murine hybridoma culture can be doubled compared to a culture grown on a standard medium. The model indicates that further improvements are achievable and allows interesting metabolic features to be observed and explained.
