Pre-selection based reduced complexity MLMUD for DS-CDMA systems

The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of pre-selection for maximum likelihood multiuser detector (MLMUD) based CDMA receivers with the aim of reducing complexity while maintaining virtually no loss in BER performance. The performance of such receivers in AWGN and multipath channels is investigated on the basis of both complexity and BER performance. A comparison between three different forms of such receivers is also presented and the best compromise is suggested.
