VLSI ARCHITECTURE OF ADVANCED INTRA CODING MODE FOR H.263+ VIDEO CODEC CORE

ITU-T H.263+ is an extension of H.263 baseline. Its purpose is to broaden the range of applications and to improve the coding performance and error resilience. H.263+ has four modes. This paper describes the VLSI architecture of one mode i.e., advanced intra coding mode (AIC). Proposed module can select the most efficient prediction mode and has low complexity. Moreover, this method can make block-based pipelining possible, which is the deficiency of conventional method. Implementation results shows that proposed module can be implemented with low computational complexity.
