Poetry, Imagination, and Technical Writing.

Every year more sections of college-level technical writing are being offered. As a result, more teachers originally trained to teach literature are preparing to teach technical writing. Such teachers have more resource materials to draw on than did their counterparts fifteen years ago: journal articles and even whole journals are devoted to technical writing pedagogy, and workshops in the teaching of technical writing are given in all parts of the country. Moreover, professional organizations have recognized the need to assist these new teachers as they begin to teach their first technical writing courses. John A. Walter, upon completing his tenure as president of the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing, urged the Association to continue giving high priority to "helping conventionally trained teachers of English make the transition to becoming teachers of technical writing" (93).
