Analysis and Design of High-Current Arc-Triggering Hybrid Current-limiting Fuse

For the high-current applications of arc-triggering hybrid current-limiting fuse, the key technologies are deeply studied and the design of arc-trigger is optimized. To shorten its fusing time with allowed temperature rise, the effect of physical dimension of fuse on the temperature rise and pre-arcing characteristics is analyzed with its thermoelectric coupling model.A 2 000 A/640 V prototype is developed and its rated power is 144 W.The results of short-circuit test with prospective peak current 100 kA and time constant 4.17 ms show that, the arc trigger burns out in 700 μs after short-circuit fault, the pre-arcing time is 1.1 ms,the clear time is 1.85 ms,the fault current is limited to 19 kA,and the melting joule integral is only 1/28 of the rapid fuse with same specifications.
