Transients and dynamics in a linear reluctance self-oscillating motor

The design and principle of operation, as well as the electromechanical phenomena and performance, of a linear reluctance self-oscillating motor are demonstrated and discussed. The motor consists of an iron bar, moving inside a coil. This coil is connected in series with a capacitor, and this circuit is then fed from an AC voltage source. The motor operates on the basis of resonance in an RLC stator circuit. A mathematical model of the motor, permitting the analysis of the dynamics and transients which occur in the circuit, is devised and thoroughly examined. The results of theoretical calculations carried out with the motor operating in horizontal and vertical positions were verified experimentally. >
