Automatic Calibration Method Based on Traditional Camera Calibration Approach

Camera calibration is one of the key procedures for computer vision and the accuracy of camera calibration is of vital importance in terms of ensuring the systematic measurement accuracy. An automatic calibration method based on traditional camera calibration is proposed in this paper. First of all, calibrated image series can be gained by using improved calibrating template with regional calibration points. Then scanning areas for these spots will be confirmed though edge detection technique. Finally, parameters of camera will be calculated after linear calibration and nonlinear correction according to camera perspective projection model. Experiments show that the improved calibration method has several advantages such as higher scanning speed, better stability and more satisfying robustness which makes the process of traditional camera calibration an automatic process.
