Cisco IOS and IOS-XR Quality-of-Service Implementation for MPLS Layer 3 VPN Services

This chapter focuses on QoS implementation for the most common network services in a given IP/MPLS network rather than focusing on individual applications, since traffic in an SP network is grouped within network services. Applications within these services are typically classified and eventually grouped into traffic classes to provide unique separation from a QoS standpoint and, in effect, to provide differential treatment within the same network. The chapter also provides guidelines and implementation specific details on configuring QoS for MPLS Layer 3 VPN services. A case study is also chosen to illustrate these details. It is recommended that this information be used to create a broad framework in an SP network, but the finer details will always need optimization based on a wide variety of requirements, and there cannot be any rules for deployment.
