A reacting continuum

Abstract This paper presents a very general framework which is useful in formulating theories describing particular heterogeneous reacting continua. This framework consists of a kinematic model and the balance equations for mass, momentum, spin momentum, energy, entropy, electric charge and magnetic flux. Very general forms of the balance equations are used so that most continuum theories will fit naturally into our framework. The balance equations are postulated as integral equations from which the corresponding differential and jump equations are derived for both an individual constituent and for a reacting continuum.
