ROCK BREAKAGE BY SMOOTH BLASTING

THROUGH THE OBSERVATION OF A FACE CREATED BY SMOOTH BLASTING, IT CAN BE RECOGNIZED THAT A LINE OF MAJOR CRACK IS CREATED FROM HOLE TO HOLE AND THE CRACKS IN THE OTHER DIRECTIONS ARE FEW. THIS CRACK PATTERN SHOWN ABOVE IS OBVIOUS IN PRACTICE BUT NOT IN THEORY. THEREFORE, IN ORDER TO CLARIFY THE MECHANISM OF ROCK BREAKAGE BY SMOOTH BLASTING, BOTH THE STATE OF THE DYNAMIC STRESS CAUSED BY THE STRESS WAVE AND THE QUASI-STATIC STRESS DISTRIBUTION CAUSED BY THE PRESSURE OF THE EXPLOSION GASES HAVE BEEN ANALYZED FOR THE TYPICAL PATTERN OF SMOOTH BLASTING. THE PATTERN OF THE BREAKAGE OF THE MATERIAL DEDUCED FROM THE ABOVE STRESS ANALYSES COINCIDES FAIRLY WELL WITH THAT OBTAINED IN PRACTICE. /AUTHOR/
