The invention discloses a garbage can capable of compressing garbage, which comprises an outer can and an inner can, wherein the upper end of the outer can is provided with a can cover which is controlled to be opened and closed by a pedal device; a round hole is formed on the can cover; a manual compressor is arranged in the garbage can corresponding to the round hole; the bottom end of the manual compressor is fixed with a garbage compressing plate of which the size is smaller than the caliber of the inner can; and an elastic device is arranged between the garbage compressing plate and the bottom of the can cover. When the garbage can is used, the garbage compressing plate compresses the garbage, so that the garbage volume is reduced; therefore, the cost of dumping the garbage is saved; and the garbage is prevented from polluting hands and feet, and peculiar smell is prevented from releasing when the garbage is compressed.
