Influences of silicate dissolving bacteria and natural potassium on growth and essential oil of rue plant.

Rue, Ruta graveolens L. a traditional medicinal plant, known to prevent the attacks by fleas and other noxious insects. The plant is also used as a flavoring agent for spirits and foods. The experiment was consummated at the Experimental Farm, National Research Centre (NRC), Egypt during 2004/2005 season to evaluate the effect of silicate dissolving bacteria (SDB) and feldspar [as a natural source of important elements i.e. potassium (K)] by different levels, 0.0, 25, 50 and 100 g L -1 on rue (Ruta graveolens L.) plant. Adding SDB and feldspar improved fresh and dry weights (FW and DW) of herb and essential oil (EO) content (% or ml plant -1 ). On the other hand, the main constituents of essential (undecan-2-ol and nonan-2-one) were increased but the relative level for various constituents increased or decreased under SDB and feldspar treatments.
