Numerical Simulation of Silt Abrasive Erosion in Hydraulic Machinery

Numerical investigation into silt abrasive erosion of hydraulic machinery for low sand water concentration(mean sand concentration by volume C v1%,or sand carrying capacity less than 20 kg/m 3)is reported The turbulent flow velocity fields and pressure distributions as well as the trajectories of sand particles in hydraulic machinery flow are numerically calculated using the mixed Eulerian Lagrangian turbulence model This turbulence model is based on the particel source in cell numerical technique for two phase flows,and,Eulerian equations are used for the description of the liquid phase dynamics,whilst the solid particles are treated within the Lagrangian framework The sand particle rebound model and the erosion wear model in hydraulic machinery flow field are also presented We calculated the erosion wear rates of a hydraulic turbine guide vane The numerical predictions show good agreement with the actual
