Lasing without inversion in double quantum wells controlled by a dc field

We present what is to our knowledge the first result for dc-field-induced lasing without inversion in double quantum wells including quantum coherence and interference. A three-subband system with two lower tunneling-split subbands coupled by the dc field is studied. The important role of the dc field in realizing lasing without inversion is demonstrated. The Coulomb renormalization of electron energy is considered. The many-body theory is employed to include the screening and excitonic shifts.
