In this paper, an efficient approach to obtain approximate flower patterns of roll forming processes is proposed, which can help engineers to conduct conceptual design of roll forming processes with ease and efficiency. The approach is based on the plane strain assumption and the roll forming process is considered a multi-stage forging process. The roll profiles at the roll gap of each roll forming stand are considered die profiles of its associated forging process. The predictions are compared with predictions obtained by a three-dimensional finite element method. It has been shown that the present approach is worthy of being used for conceptual design of roll forming pass schedule.
