New accurate transition probabilities for astrophysically important spectral lines of neutral nitrogen

New transition probabilities based on configuration interaction wave functions, obtained in the doublet and quartet systems and for intercombination lines of neutral nitrogen, are presented. The configuration interaction calculations were performed with the CIV3 code of Hibbert A. (1975, Comp. Phys. Commun., 9). Small empirical adjustements introduced to the diagonal matrix elements achieve accurate energy splittings between the energy states. The accuracy of the transition probabilities is tested from comparisons with the most accurate theoretical or experimental results presently available. Astrophysical implications are also briefly discussed
