An automatic system for testing of low-cost electric energy meters under distorted conditions

Often low cost electrical energy meters are required to perform their measurement task in distorted conditions far from those in which they are designed and tested. For their metrological characterization, the use of primary systems is inappropriate or at least excessively expensive. This paper introduces an automated test system specifically designed and implemented to perform a metrological characterization of low cost energy meters even in distorted conditions. The experimental application of developed system for the characterization of a commercial low cost meter shows satisfying performance and wide versatility.
