A Long-Term View of Short-Range Wireless

Economic forces and physical laws are driving the growth of a new wireless infrastructure that will become as ubiquitous as lighting and power infrastructures are today. Short-range wireless (SRW) offers the highest bandwidths at the lowest power levels, in the most crowded spaces, for the most users. With these advantages, the growth of SRW as a new wireless infrastructure seems inevitable. However, SRW will take time to converge on a set of common standards, and a period of business experimentation and consolidation will likely occur as SRW links spread to public venues and private homes.
