Control System Modernization: Turbogas Unit Case Study

Abstract The modernization process of the control system for a turbogas unit is presented. It was performed under a full-scope control system technology-update project at a Combined Cycle Power Plant. The design of the automation and control scheme, and the control software development became the most challenging tasks. A large and complex software system that provides the full range of automation and control functions was developed. The main project development stages are described. Major emphasis is done at the modernization methodology, automation and control scheme design, and control software validation stages. The turbogas digital control system was installed on-line, without disturbing the daily scheduled generation, and has been in operation since 1993.
