Integration of Superposition Coding with Network Channel-HARQ in Wireless Systems

A novel transmission and retransmission scheme is proposed in this paper, which integrates Superposition Coding (SC) with Network Channel HARQ (NC-HARQ). First of all, the scheme is proposed through the design of the transmission and retransmission flows. Then the channel capacity and the transmission efficiency of the proposed scheme and conventional schemes are formulated and analyzed. The scheme is fit for the traffic with messages of different priorities. Both the gain on spectrum efficiency of SC in the transmission and that of NC-HARQ in the retransmission, which are represented by the data rate and the transmission efficiency, can be combined in the proposed scheme. Finally, the performance of different schemes is evaluated through numerical simulation. The results show that the proposed scheme can obtain higher transmission efficiency than conventional NC-HARQ and HARQ scheme through SC in both correlated and uncorrelated packet loss models.
