Effects of Assembly Errors on Hypoid Gear Mesh and Dynamic Response

Gear tooth contact is simulated by applying a quasi-static method to study the effects of assembly errors on hypoid gear mesh characteristics. Based on the mesh parameters derived, the dynamic analysis can also be performed to predict the way assembly errors control gear dynamic response. The effective mesh point, line of action, mesh stiffness and static transmission error are assumed time-invariant in the model. Of the numerous misalignments analyzed, the shaft angle error, positive error of pinion offset, positive error of pinion axial position and negative error of gear axial position appear to worsen dynamics and hence noise response as well.Copyright © 2005 by ASME
