Energy consumption and proper requirement for soil compaction

The energy consumption of the soil compacting process is analyzed. Two expressions of energy consumption under linear and nonlinear conditions are presented respectively. With these expressions, detailed calculation and comparison are carried out. The analytical results and calculation data show that further compacting of high-density soil will lead to radically increase of energy consumption, so we shall be prudent when increasing the requirement of compaction amount. The authors suggest that a great deal of research and experiment is still needed in order to define a proper requirement for the amount of soil compaction.
