Angular distributions of cross sections and vector analyzing powers . . . 208 -+ 3 207 208 -+ 207 . measured ~n the Pb(d, He) . TI and Pb(d,t) Pb react~ons . were at 30 MeV. The vector analyzing powers show a strong j-dependence both in the (d, 3He ) and (d, t) reactions. The distorted-wave Born-approximation provides quali tati ve fits to the data for several transitions on 208 Pb. We report here the results of an investigation that shows a strong j-dependence of the vector analyzing power ~n the 2~8pb(~;He)207TI and 208pb (d, t)207pb reactions induced with vector polarized deuterons. A number of experiments have shown that the vector analyzing power for (d,p) and (p,d) reactions with polarized incident particles depends strongly ·on the j-value of the transferred neutron for a given orbital angular momentum ] 2 transfer. ' Recently, this property, along with distorted-wave Born-approximation (DWBA) fits to measured analyzing powers, has ~een exploited to provide spin assignments to a substantial number of states populated by these reactions in nuclei ranging from A = 40-]87. 3 Also, JTIassignments of several states in
