An intelligent order entry and dynamic bill of materials system for manufacturing customized furniture

This paper presents a system that integrates order entry, product configuration and dynamic generation of bills of materials functions in a customized office furniture manufacturing company. The system (SmartBoM) has been developed using object-oriented techniques and has been implemented in Concept Modeller. Customer requirements are captured by the order entry module and the validity of the product configuration is verified by constraints incorporated in the system. The system dynamically generates the bill of materials for the order. The object-oriented architecture makes the system modular and flexible.
