The value of statistical life in New Zealand; market research on road safety

The willingness to pay approach is the most appropriate method available for determining the value of statistical life. A household survey was carried out in 1989-90 for determining this value. This report analyses the survey responses and provides estimates of the value of statistical life. It also provides the relative valuation of serious non-fatal injuries. The report compares the estimated values with those obtained overseas and also with those adopted in some other OECD countries.
