VERIFICATION OF CURLING IN PCC SLABS AT THE NATIONAL AIRPORT PAVEMENT TEST FACILITY. IN: ADVANCING AIRPORT PAVEMENTS

The heavy weight deflectometer (HWD) data collected from the National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF) test conducted on three portland cement concrete test pavements indicates that a significant increase of upward curling of the slabs occurred fro the summer to winter of 1999. Measured increase of deflections at joints and corners from HDW tests, plus a nonlinear relation between measured deflection differences and HWD load intervals verified the increase of upward curling. The test data also showed that the sum of deflections on two sides of a joint is almost independent of the load transfer capability defined by the ratio between deflections on the unloaded and loaded sides.
