Design, installation and operation of power system stabilizers on the Hongkong Electric power system

Weakly damped low frequency power oscillations have become a worrying problem in the operation of the Hongkong Electric power system. As in other utilities, power system stabilizers (PSS) are used to enhance the system dynamic stability. The authors report on the practical experience of the Hongkong Electric Company in the design, installation and operation of PSS in the Lamma power station.
