Toward Constructing Hapticon Design Support System through Participatory Design

We develop a device prototype to solve the complicated problem regarding hapticon design. Hapticon design requires fine and careful tuning, thus it cannot possibly solve solely by using abductive thinking and conventional design methods. Our proposed prototype consists of a pair of vibrotactile actuators as its hardware. As for the software, we applied an interactive evolutionary algorithm which involve user in the optimization process. Preliminary results show that our prototype is capable of displaying hapticon as well as provide assistance for haptic feedback designers.
